Aerial cinematography and DCA permits across Mauritius and the Indian Ocean

Identical Media handles drone work for international productions in Mauritius, Seychelles, Madagascar, Réunion, and the Maldives. We service two distinct needs. Your aerial unit can be ours, or it can be yours. We handle both. Pick the path that matches your production.

Path 1. You want us to fly the aerial

If your production needs aerial coverage delivered, we coordinate the full operation: locally-registered pilots, our own DJI fleet, location permits, flight planning, ATC coordination, and downstream integration with ground crew and post. Aerial kit on our side is DJI throughout: Inspire 3, Inspire 2 with Zenmuse X7, Mavic 3 Pro and Mavic 3 Cine, plus Avata 2 / FPV for chase work and interiors. Ground and camera support is paired with MediaVision, ARRI Certified and Sony Pro Partner.

Best fit: feature aerial units that are not bringing their own pilot, TV series, TV commercials on time-bound budgets, documentaries, tourism, real estate, social campaigns.

Path 2. You are bringing your own foreign aerial unit

If your production is arriving with its own drones, gimbals, pilots, and foreign-issued competency certificates, none of that is recognised in Mauritius until it has been registered, authenticated, and authorised locally by the Department of Civil Aviation. We handle the full DCA workflow on your behalf: UAS registration, operator and owner listing, Open or Specific Category operating authorisation, foreign pilot recognition, ICTA type approval, DRI compliance, and airspace coordination with Air Traffic Control on flying days.

Best fit: major features, prestige documentaries (BBC, Open Planet, current city project), Netflix titles, and TV commercials where the agency or director has an established aerial DP based in London, Los Angeles, Madrid, Cape Town, or Mumbai.

Why both paths come through Identical Media

Foreign aerial work in Mauritius is regulated under the Civil Aviation (Unmanned Aircraft System) Regulations 2024 and the MCAR-UAS, with operating authorisations issued by the Department of Civil Aviation in three categories: Open, Specific, and Certified. The framework changed on 1 January 2025, the old PFAW regime no longer applies, and the practical effect is that nothing is straightforward for a foreign drone unit arriving cold. We are the local service production company that runs this workflow week in, week out, for the productions that come through Mauritius and the wider Indian Ocean.

Across both paths, the regional advantage is the same: Mauritius is one of the most production-ready destinations in the region (direct Emirates A380 connectivity Dubai to Mauritius, three times daily, with onward access to Seychelles, Maldives, Madagascar, and Réunion), with a film rebate covering foreign cast and crew (not only local spend), and the only locally-stocked ARRI Certified and Sony Pro Partner rental house in MediaVision.
