Global Road Entertainment – “Serenity” (Hollywood Feature Film, 2019)
Production Company: Global Road Entertainment (Los Angeles, USA)
Director & Writer: Steven Knight
Distributor: Aviron Pictures (US Release)
Serenity is a 2019 Hollywood neo-noir thriller directed and written by Steven Knight, starring Academy Award® winner Matthew McConaughey and Academy Award® winner Anne Hathaway. The film also features Diane Lane, Jason Clarke, Djimon Hounsou, and Jeremy Strong. Set against a mysterious and atmospheric island backdrop, much of the film was shot in Mauritius, showcasing the island’s dramatic coastlines and lush interiors as a cinematic double for the fictional Plymouth Island.
The story follows Baker Dill (McConaughey), a fishing boat captain whose quiet life is shattered when his ex-wife (Hathaway) tracks him down with a desperate plea for help. Combining suspense, romance, and psychological drama, Serenity positioned Mauritius on the map as a viable location for large-scale Hollywood feature filmmaking.
